Meet Shalene Hill

Shalene Hill is an innovative swim instructor from Asheville, North Carolina, bringing over 13 years of experience transforming anxious swimmers into confident water explorers through her Story, Song, and Swim method. With a Bachelor's degree in Voice Performance from Appalachian State University and coursework in Music Therapy, combined with her background in Waldorf Education, gymnastics instruction, and various swim methodologies, she has developed a gentle yet effective approach that makes learning to swim feel like an adventure.

As Western North Carolina's first certified survival swim instructor and a former preschool gymnastics instructor, Shalene understands both the technical precision needed for water safety and the playful engagement that helps children thrive. Her method, born from years of poolside experience and inspired by Swim Angelfish's approach to addressing roadblocks to swimming success, uses music and song as therapeutic tools to help countless families discover the joy of swimming while building essential safety skills.

Shalene is certified in the Swim Whisperer's™ program, level 1, and continues to expand her expertise in neuroscience-informed teaching methods. Her innovative approach combines traditional water safety techniques with arts-based learning, creating memorable experiences that reduce anxiety and accelerate skill development.

When not in the pool, Shalene cultivates her Singing for Healing practice, using music as a therapeutic tool for herself and others. As a mother of two adult daughters who have been the driving force behind her success, she brings both professional expertise and parental understanding to her work with families navigating their own water journeys.
